More than four out of five voters in Utah believe that decisions about pregnancy related healthcare should by made by individuals in consultation with their doctors, as opposed to lawmakers being involved.
Statewide opinion surveys by Salt Lake City-based Dan Jones & Associates showed Utahns’ overwhelming support for access to sex education and reproductive health care and opposition to more restrictions on abortion care.
Voters nationwide, across traditionally Democratic, longtime Republican, and swing districts have decisively rejected the GOP push to impose ideological mandates on intensely private healthcare choices.
This majority opinion holds across religious faiths and political affiliations in Utah, with 86% of Republicans, 86% of Independents, and 92% of Democrats believing decisions should be made by individuals with their doctors, surveys show.
State Sen. Kathleen Riebe, the Democratic contender in the Nov. 21 special election for Utah’s 2nd district US House seat, supports women’s rights to choose. She has worked as a schoolteacher in Utah for more than 20 years.
Former Congressional aide Celeste Maloy, Riebe’s opponent, endorses the Utah GOP’s harsh forced-birth law, which has been suspended by litigation. The law imposes severe penalties.
There’s still time to help Riebe foil the GOP plan for a nationwide, no-exceptions abortion ban.
