If one checks out my somewhat long but sparse commenting and diary history here, I’ve defended Palestinian causes many times, going back decades. I’ve mostly avoided commenting on this most recent bout of insanity for a number of reasons. For one, I just turned 77, and am tired of trying to defend these people when I cannot really help them.
But I have one question:
How can this great, longstanding blog be so excellent, courageous and inclusive in its coverage of the savagery in Ukraine, but almost sickly, afraid and exclusive in its coverage of the dimensions of Israel’s ongoing misconduct?
My question doesn’t include my deep feeling that Hamas has deliberately put a collective suicide vest on every child, woman and man in Gaza. And have reiterated that dynamic as a goal they seek to continue as long as Hamas has military capability.
None of the top tier people who work at DK write diaries here with the courage needed to confront Israeli military conduct. Nor does one find many diaries here which definitively track Israel’s drift further into apartheid and authoritarianism.
Commenters and diarists over the decades DK has existed have sometimes bemoaned this hole in this community’s coverage. I do too.
The hole in Daily Kos’s coverage of the ongoing expropriation of Palestinian land, the uneven playing field between occupied and occupier, is the most blatant shortcoming of an otherwise excellent fest of dynamic ideas, arguments and solutions.
