This story is something everyone should read. Especially in light of what is happening in Europe and elsewhere around the globe. We should always be wary of falling into the same pit that brought about the Holocaust.
For Walter, it began in Germany.
Now, ahead of tomorrow’s 85th anniversary of Kristallnacht, he has returned to where his life began. It was here in Karlsruhe that he was thrown out of school for being Jewish under Nazi rule. Here he was wrenched from his father (who he never saw again), then his mother (who, miraculously, he did). Here he boarded the Kindertransport that would carry him to safety, along with about 10,000 other mostly Jewish children from mainland Europe – a journey he repeats with a couple of other survivors, after revisiting his city, taking a train to Holland, then a boat to England. www.yahoo.com/...
We cannot forget for if we do, this will happen again and we may not be just a witness, but the subject of the horror.
“We’re living in 1938 now,” he says. “In those days in Germany, we had to keep a low profile for fear of being recognized or attacked. Nazi Brownshirts would be hunting for Jews. What did they do on October 7? They were hunting for Jews, and now Jews in Europe have to keep a low profile. We are seeing a repeat of history.” www.yahoo.com/...
We cannot forget!
