History: Israel was founded in 1948. The West Bank & Gaza have been without autonomy under various levels of Israeli occupation since 1967.
Elections: Israeli citizens can vote, but Palestinians in occupied territories cannot vote in Israeli elections.
Demographics: Israel is 74% Jewish, 21% Arab and 5% neither. Israel, the West Bank and Gaza together are 47% Jewish, and the majority non-Jewish population is younger and growing faster. Given the diversity of religious beliefs among non-Jews, there is no single religious majority in the combined territory.
Poll background: Israel was originally both a democracy and a Jewish state, but the current territory controlled by the Israeli government is neither democratic nor majority Jewish. The poll goal is to understand what folks here believe the configuration should be for Israel/Palestine, given the demographics.
Disclosure: Neither Jewish nor Muslim, I have worked for charities of both and have visited both Israel and the West Bank.
