Dear Chief Justice Roberts,
I have never thought about being able to write the Supreme Court a letter in the same way that I write a letter to senators or congressmen. I never really questioned the decisions by the Supreme Court, even though I have disagreed with some decisions. Until this court, I had not thought that most of the time decisions were being made that damage the nation. I now question every decision that comes from this court. I do not think that the majority of this court has the same goals for society that the majority of the citizens have for the nation. When that happens many people will question the laws and decisions that the Supreme Court rules on.
I think it damages the nation by not taking the immunity case against Mr. Trump. Mr. Trump is a citizen, as I am, and he is not above the law any more than I am. We deserve a quick decision; we do not benefit from a delayed decision. He is trying to get out of being held responsible in the eyes of the laws that bind us together as a nation. Without laws that we all agree to we have chaos. He clearly has tried to damage and destroy our election process. He is trying to use the courts to postpone any decisions that would rule that he instigated a revolt against the November 2020 election. He is abusing the courts to try to game the court system to get out of multiple cases. The way I see it he will use and abuse the very court system that made it possible for him to win the presidency in the first place.
Americans went to the polls to elect a President and clearly President Biden won. Mr. Trump could not take the results and concede. He has abused his rights as a citizen of this nation. He abused standard procedures for giving security clearances in the White House. He abused the Hatch Act and held campaign events at the White House, making a mockery of any norms that were once a given. He mocks anyone who follows rules. He abused the justice department in many ways, he appointed incompetent judges and attorneys general. He tried to have his appointees make decisions that benefited him and not the nation. He used accepted rules to undermine and destroy the very rules that he thinks he should not have to follow. He then complains when he does not get his way. He tried to get people who worked around him to break the law. He forged his own health reports that were released to the nation. He mocked weather reports and altered weather event boundaries. He did not take the Covid virus at all seriously and killed many Americans by his policies. He clearly abused national security procedures and documents. There are many examples, some quite serious and some less so. They add up to a disregard of laws and norms.
I think you have done a great disservice to the nation, and it is a dereliction of duty to not have taken the case.
