I don’t believe gendered sports make sense anymore and I think there’s a pretty sensible fix to both solve the problems and protect women in sports. I believe there should be two basic kinds of leagues and both of them should be non-gendered. The first kind of league is open to anyone and there’s no quota on how many women would be on any particular team. The second kind of league would have a fluctuating quota to make sure that over time an equal number of women are able to play in both leagues calculated together as a whole. Every team in this second kind of league would follow the same quota. During the seasons, there would be playoffs/tournaments where the winners from each league play each other so that the quota league has a chance to prove themselves and for players in that league to be seen by recruiters.
There are just too many body types and gender orientations for gendered sports to make sense anymore. And women deserve the right to have a shot at competing and training with and against men in order to reach their highest potential. The separate but (not) equal system we have right now is holding too many women down. It’s not equal and it’s not just. It’s not fair in terms of potential or pay and it should be re-designed for the 21st Century. It’s time for amateur and professional sports to evolve.
