Missing from the New York Times year end reporting about Trump and his trials is any acknowledgement that the Times -- and the Washington Post -- helped Trump and hurt Hillary before Trump even entered the race. In April 2015, both papers printed excerpts from "Clinton Cash" on the front page. The book alleged that Bill and Hillary stole funds from the Clinton Global Initiative and insinuated that they committed many financial crimes. NONE of the allegations and insinuations proved true, but the imprimatur of the Times and the Post gave all mass media permission to give the benefit of the doubt to Trump and NONE to Hillary.
The Times NEVER apologized for how it helped Trump. By printing those excerpts from “Clinton Cash”, the Times gave Trump’s lies about Hillary creditability.
The resources of the Times were not used extensively to investigate Trump family crimes until after he was in office for a year or two. Reporting any of the in depth investigations by Wayne Barrett of the Village Voice and by David Cay Johnston, done in the 35 years between 1980 and 2015, rarely made it into the paper or on line.
The Times did tell us a lot about Hillary Clinton's methods and procedures for handling email when she was Secretary of State. She received more than a 1000 emails a day over 4 years. Out of more than 1,500,000 emails received, about 50, containing only public information, were wrongly forwarded to state department employees without proper security clearances to receive and read those emails.
In July, 2016, FBI Director James Comey told us that Hillary Clinton was “extremely careless” handling classified information. Thank God, no one at the New York Times has error rates in excess of 3 per 100,000. Responsible journalism from the Times would have analyzed Hillary Clinton’s error rate. Responsible journalism would have told us Comey’s comment was “a bunch of malarkey”.
At no time did the Times acknowledge that Hillary Clinton's email methods and procedures did NOT harm US national security. In fact, she better protected national security information than the DOD and the FBI.
In contrast, criminal defendant Trump, his White House administration and his family, all used private email services and unsecure cell phones. When Trump left the White House, he took with him many boxes of government documents, classified and not, ALL of which belong to the people of the United States, NONE of which should be in his possession.
Four years out of office, running for President while under 4 criminal indictments, Trump continues to receive the benefit of the doubt from the Times. Bill and Hillary Clinton, President Biden, and the Democratic party do not.
