You know Laurie Metcalf. She was Roseanne’s wacky sister Jackie on Roseanne. She was Sheldon’s mother in The Big Bang Theory. She was an insane killer in Scream 2.
But her first and greatest acting love is for the stage. And she has received raves for her work on Broadway, particularly in David Hnath’s A Doll’s House, Part 2, for which she won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Play.

Laurie Metcalf was born in 1955 in Carbondale, IL, the oldest of three children, and grew up in Edwardsville, IL.
When she enrolled at Illinois State University, in Normal, she initially studied German and then anthropology before finally majoring in theatre studies (B.A., 1976). She subsequently moved to the Chicago area, where she supported herself by working as a secretary and became an original ensemble member of the newly founded Steppenwolf Theatre Company (then in the suburb Highland Park).

I don’t know what they’re blathering on about — but isn’t that a great photo of her?
Why Metcalf’s performance in A Doll’s House, Part 2 was Broadwaycom’s pick for performance of the year [2:23]:

She has three Emmys for Outstanding Supporting Actress from her work on Roseanne.
In 1988, Metcalf debuted in what is arguably her best known role as Jackie Harris, the multiple-careered, low self-esteemed, amiable sister of the title character in the hit ABC sitcom series Roseanne, starring alongside Roseanne Barr and John Goodman. Her performance garnered four Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, a category that she won three consecutive times, from 1992 to 1994.

Here’s some of her fairly recent Broadway work:

She [...] earned her first Tony Award, winning for Best Actress in a Play.[33] The following year Metcalf performed in the Broadway revival of Three Tall Women with Glenda Jackson and Allison Pill [and] won her second consecutive Tony Award, this time for Best Featured Actress in a Play.[34] Metcalf played Hillary Clinton opposite John Lithgow as Bill Clinton in Lucas Hnath's Hillary and Clinton on Broadway in 2019 at the John Golden Theatre. The play was directed by Joe Mantello and tells a fictional account of Hillary Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign… Metcalf was nominated for the 2019 Tony Award, Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play.[36]

And in an example of wildly bad timing, Metcalf starred as Martha in a revival of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? that opened on March 3, 2020. Eight days later the show was canceled because...Covid.
Damn.

Metcalf has an interesting filmography, too. She’s been in Desperately Seeking Susan, Uncle Buck, Leaving Las Vegas, the aforementioned Scream 2, Lady Bird, and many more. Wiki has the list.
Have a wonderful day!
