Ukraine has issued a new postage stamp, featuring the artwork of the iconic muralist Banksy. Who might be a guy named Robin Gunningham, from Bristol, UK. Maybe.
The image depicts a little boy wearing a judo outfit, flipping a much larger grown man who is similarly dressed. Putin is known for being a martial arts enthusiast, and proud of his black belt in judo. The stamp was issued on February 24th, coinciding with the one year anniversary of the Russian invasion.
Banksy's works have appeared elsewhere in Ukraine since the war began. As always, the images make use of existing features of the surfaces they're painted on.
The murals are powerful, poignant, and often a bit humorous. Just as you'd expect of this artist. All of the images invite us to interpret them for ourselves.
As with the famous Snake Island stamp, Ukrainian citizens have been eager to buy this new postage stamp. The Snake Island stamp itself, and items featuring the artwork, are available for purchase through various online outlets. I recommend shopping www.saintjavelin.com first as proceeds directly support humanitarian aid for Ukraine. It's probably too soon yet for T shirts of the newest stamp but I'm sure they'll make an appearance.
Slava Ukraini!
