What’s happening in the PUGET Sound of Seattle Washington?
Chemical blizzard entering Puget Sound from wastewater plants by John Ryan from NPR. Seattle . This chemical PFAS ( polyfluoroalkyl substances), is known to last for a long time in water, also known as forever chemical.
Washington state has faced many challenges to save salmon population and keep in range in the Snake River.
Salmon lifespan and mission to cross salty water consumes them. Winter season is harder, because the cold water and lack of sunshine, many marine communities disperse to warmer places. This winter may lingers till March, due to La Niña cycle, and brings shorter daylight. Temperate region and limited sunshine make this region more sensitive to any change in pH balance such as long lasting chemical.
Sunlight season allows many diverse marine communities exchange oxygen through photosynthesis thus reduce Carbon and cleaner ocean.
Why is this important?
Washington state has the most unique salmon species and habitat in the Pacific Northwest . It is extremely important to keep this ocean and rivers clean and free from chemical, because ocean is turning acidic
