I wrote a diary which disappeared in the Kos-apocalypse on the French retirement system, and have no intention of repeating it.
Protests kick off in Paris as Macron forces through controversial pension reform
French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday decided to trigger Article 49.3 of the French constitution, which granted the government executive privilege to push through controversial pension reforms without a parliamentary vote. The risky move sparked protests outside the National Assembly and is expected to trigger motions of no-confidence in his government.
"When a president has no majority in the country, no majority in the National Assembly, he must withdraw his bill," said Socialist Party chief Olivier Faure.
Far-right French politician Marine Le Pen denounced the move and said she would file a motion of no-confidence in the government in parliament.
So much for centrists?
Everyone seems to want to circumvent actual democracy.
What a bloody gift to authoritarians.
This type of action seriously undermines democracy itself, just because an antidemocratic executive privilege exists does not mean you have to use it.
