Fox News sued one of its producers to keep her from suing them but she sued anyway. To make this more entertaining the Fox News producer lawsuits claim Fox News attorneys coached and coerced to commit perjury when she was deposed in the Dominion Voting Machines defamation case. Let’s sort this out.
Abby Grossberg is a producer for Fox News. Last month she accused the organization of sexually discriminating against her. In September of last year she was deposed by Dominion in its defamation lawsuit against Fox. On March 10th Fox claims Grossberg sent them a draft of the lawsuits she filed yesterday.
Fox claims Grossberg was just trying to gain leverage for her sexual harassment complaint. Fox, first by letter, and then by its own lawsuit seeking a restraining order sought to silence Grossberg. Fox claims Grossberg’s lawsuits reveal attorney/client privileged information.
For the record, that’s nonsense. The attorney/client privilege precludes compelling the attorney to reveal confidential communications with the client. It does not bind third parties privy to those communications from revealing them.
Grossberg filed her lawsuits anyway. They allege that when prepping for the Dominion deposition Fox News attorneys coached her in “a coercive and intimidating manner” to “deliver shaded and/or incomplete answers during her sworn deposition testimony.” The purpose was to protect male Fox News personalities, and the Fox Corporation, but it also had the effect of making Grossberg look worse. In short, Grossberg alleges Fox News attorneys coached her to be the fall woman.
Fox claims these allegations are to gain leverage in her discrimination complaint. However, I must question the wisdom of admitting to perjury to gain advantage in a sex discrimination allegation. That seems like just another absurd argument from Fox.
It should be noted that her sexual discrimination complaint alleges a culture of misogyny and antisemitism. Grossberg alleges senior Fox News executive referred to host Maria Bartiromo as “a crazy bitch” and “menopausal.” Grossberg claims Tucker Carlson’s staff regularly joked about Jews.
At Fox News the witnesses in the Dominion case are turning on each other and claiming Fox News attorneys suborned perjury. The Dominion lawyers must be cackling with glee.
