Keith Self, a Texas Republican representing Dallas suburbs such as Allen and McKinney in the US House, stands by the notion that prayers help after mass shootings, especially with the recent mass shooting at Allen Premium Outlets.
Asked by CNN's Paula Reid what — in his capacity as a lawmaker — could be done to better prevent mass shootings, the lawmaker said he was "focused on the families and the victims today."
When asked to respond to critics who say prayers aren’t enough to prevent shootings, he told CNN: “Well, those are people that don’t believe in an almighty God who is absolutely in control of our lives. I’m a Christian. I believe that he is.”
Self said he wanted to know the motive of the shooter and whether they had a criminal record or mental health issues.
“We have people though with mental health that we’re not taking care of,” Self told Reid. “Since this nation made the decision that we were going to close the mental health institutions, many of these situations are based on that.”
But of course, right-wing politicians cannot win without paranoid voters. (However, it’s a mystery why the GOP have never cared about the Fourth Amendment. /s)
Sometimes, though, they want to have their cake and eat it, too...
...as this continues to happen in this “exceptional” nation. (Be warned that the bottom picture is a gruesome picture to look at. However, don't be surprised if this becomes the official seal of the Republican Party.)
The graphic photo was initially used as the headline picture. But, as important as it is to show how much of a grave concern mass shootings are in the USA, there are concerns over placing such a bloody photo on one’s front page. To avoid triggering readers or breaching journalistic ethics, the headline picture is replaced.
