Welcome to the Street Prophets Coffee Hour, where politics meets up with religion, art, nature, and life. Come in, take a cuppa and a cookie (or three!) and join us.
I’ve been working on a project with the historian who does my research in Scotland, and in the process, she found a huge number of old photos and drawings of Edinburgh, Glasgow, and other cities in Scotland. We can’t use them all, but it’s a shame that they aren’t given a wider audience, so here are some. These will be mostly street scenes since that’s what we’re aiming for.
We’re going through literally hundreds of drawings and photographs pre-20th Century. Most of the ones here are from Glasgow, but you’ll see a couple from other cities. The Clyde, for instance, runs through Glasgow. If you want to see what it looks like today, Jenny took a day-long tour by boat and has a video, backed by music from our favorite Scottish fiddler, Paul Burns. You can listen to some more of his works at the link. Most of them are just a couple of minutes long. (Pay special attention to the one at the bottom of the page, with the slider—and its dedication!)
Waverly Trip Doon the Water 2023
I sing along every time “Flow Gently, Sweet Afton” comes along. It’s about an hour long but very pretty.
