I am not a psychologist, nor do I play one on TV. I’m just saying…
We’ve all tried to analyze Trump, the MAGA crowd, or just the GOP in general, but it’s hard to put any of them into society’s norms. Society’s norms are just that, how society views what’s normal. But here in the U.S. there has been an effort by too many to ignore those norms. They do this by trying to influence some people to overlook what they know is part of the social contract we all live by in order to have a civil society. They appeal to the narrow self-interest band of our moral development.
We see this beyond Trump. We’ve always had racist, misogynist and bigots, but we as a society had held them and their beliefs as anathema to good social order. But for the sake of money and power there are elements that needed to bring those tendencies forward, instead of keeping them suppressed. The problem is once released into society it’s hard to contain.
I’ve addressed this before in The Gathering Storm post. But the discussion in that post didn’t address the particular whys’. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time to go in-depth today, so I won’t. Today I’ll just suggest you go to this link and come to your own conclusions. My conclusion is the reason Trump and many of his minions are where they are is they never developed past their Pre-conventional stage because their models (parents) demonstrated immorality. The kids always look at what you do, not what you say.
