Margery [rabid] Greene thinks she is the attack dog. She eagerly lashes out at almost anything to get the attention she craves. This time she bit nothing but air, much to the amusement of her intended target. As News Corpse said, Joe Biden is actually trolling Greene's lame attack on Democratic Party successes.
How could she be so off the mark? It is not too hard to figure out. Like Michele Bachmann, MTG demonstrates her ignorance about history as if it is a virtue. From cold NAZI soup to LBJ, Greene reveals not just a lack of knowledge but also an inability to comprehend the events that shape this country. Somehow this Georgian, MTG, forgot about the Republican Party's southern strategy and how that strategy tells Republicans to portray the Great Society and liberalism. It was Ronald Reagan's reactionary attacks on civil rights legislation and racial equality rather than his criticism of what LBJ did for the working people of this country that makes Reagan so popular and overrated as a president. One would think that a right wing Republican would know that. But wait! It is not that simple. There are the Greedy Old Plutocrats who still see themselves as the puppet masters tugging on the fear and loathing of the base Republicans in an effort to elect people who will keep the government from leveling the playing field. And even Greene knows that those Greedy Old Plutocrats define socialism as any government spending that does not further enrich people who are already billionaires.
Okay, I may have overestimated Greene's understanding of socialism. What I can say with some degree of certainty is that from her early childhood she has heard Republicans vilify socialism as being evil and communistic. And socialism is something for her to attack; so that works for her. Or it would work for her if she knew how to work it. Shouting the name of the bogeyman can prompt the fearful reaction you want, but trying to describe him actually lessons the impact. Most people favor medicare and other programs Greene called socialistic. And most Republicans know that calling those programs socialistic is likely to lesson the fear of socialism. That is why the Republican Party prefers attacking popular programs indirectly by saying we cannot afford them. Government spending is evil, they say. Tax and spend means paying for things other people get. Why should you pay to fill a pothole that is larger than one being repaired on the street where you live? If you know the answer to that question, you must be a tax and spend Democrat.
I have my doubts about whether MTG is trainable, but someone should tell her to stick to the usual epithets, buzz words, and slogans. Shout about the evil “woke,”“socialism,” and such without defining them. Growling and snapping at the air works in her district, but straying from her box is dangerous for her. To put it in Nixonian terms, she does not play well in Peoria.
