I have said if my state is going to be pro-life, then be pro-life. But really, the pro-life issue is about having a political wedge issue for support because honestly, we don’t care about kids here in Texas.
Another would be if it costs the state due to the reckless behavior of its employees. Then that unborn child is not a person or of value and that’s easy to demonstrate.
A Texas Prison guard is suing because she had contractions and help came 2 hours later and by the time she got to the Hospital, the inaction caused an effective abortion. The child was still-born. Despite claiming to protect the unborn, in this case, the state will argue that the unborn child was not a person and so has no rights. Did I keep hearing right to life?
Will the Texas Right to Life group help this Prison guard? Nah. You won’t find the story on their site. That unborn child didn’t count.
The prison, its supervisors, management, and thereby the state are responsible.
If a fetus is a living being then a pregnant woman should be able to use the HOV lane because she was 'driving for 2'.
The city did not see it that way nor does the state. What is the problem? Why wouldn't we want a pregnant woman to be able to use the HOV lane? Don’t we value pregnant mothers? I guess not.
The pro-life issue is used as a social wedge issue so that those seeking to remain in power, retain their office while taking hypocritical stances in regards to their own laws. Its no different than not increasing access to pre-natal health care or better education.
I keep thinking it is so people can by ugly to each other, interfere with people’s care, be greedy, lack empathy, but if I go to church and I am pro-life, then I am absolved. I am a good person. I can go to my garage but that won’t make me a car.
Then again, Texas is a strong hold for conservative Christian values — but — that long haired hippie from the middle east a couple of 1000 years ago — well he was a socialist. We can pray to him, invoke him, claim to live by him, but acting….following the teachings….nah.
Someone might get something I didn’t get. We’d promote ‘those’ people increasing their numbers. And a 1000 other reasons that say the same thing.
Pro-life by any name would be called….well...I wouldn’t call it Pro-life.
