Happy Friday! Bit isn’t off work until Sunday, so I’ll be around today.
We are rescue parents of five ducklings who were dropped off at Bit’s work (which is on the intersection of two busy roads). Mama duck was hit by a car, so her friends from work rounded up the babys, stuck them in a crate and brought them here. So we’ve been doing quick research and working to make their lives a little better.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

We are going to start working on a larger duck run and predator proof housing when Bit gets paid later this week. For now, they are in a crate in Bit’s bathroom at night, and in a small duck covered duck run during the day. We have a raccoon that frequents our yard, as well as a neighborhood cat, snakes, owls, hawks, and eagles. The small duck run is placed where I can see it out the window when I’m at my desk, so I can keep an eye on them during the day, and the cover discourages the flying predators. Sophie likes to guard them when she’s outside. She wants them to play with her, but they’re afraid of her yet.
It gives them some shade and protection from the elements as well, though we’d bring them in if a big storm came through. The board on top is to help against sudden wind gusts, but we haven’t had many of those.
Draco washes out the crate and we put a new duck pad in while they are in their outdoor run.
We don’t have names for them yet. We’re going to wait until they are older, and we can tell them apart LOL. Also, that will give time for them to show their personalities a bit. I prefer Punny names, like Quack Nicholson, and Jack Quack… but I don’t know if I’m going to get my way with the names or not.
We planted spaghetti squash where the giant elephant ears used to be, and they’re coming along nicely. We’re probably going to have to thin them out soon though.
This is the type of duck they are:
These guys definitely don’t keep their room real neat LOL.
