There were some 6,600 individual donors to the movie “Sound of Freedom”, so maybe it’s the law of averages. Or maybe this is the typical low-level right-winger these days.

One of thousands of patrons of the crowdfunded anti-child trafficking film Sound of Freedom was recently arrested and charged for child kidnapping, according to a court filing and social media posts.
Fabian Marta was charged with felony child kidnapping in July, while since-removed Facebook posts appear to show the same person revealing their pride in funding the film. Marta's name appears in the movie's credits among the "investors [who] helped bring Sound of Freedom to theaters."

Fabian Marta, 51, of Chesterfield, Missouri, was arrested on July 23, 2023. He was charged with accessory to child kidnapping, a Class A felony, on July 23 and released on July 24 on his own recognizance.
Police say Marta helped another man "harbor" two girls in an apartment on July 21, 2023. The girls were taken from their mother by an unnamed suspect and kept in the apartment. Police say Marta prevented the girls from returning to their mother by stopping the police from entering the apartment.

But now that a Missouri man who donated money toward the film’s promotion has been charged with kidnapping a child, those same Sound of Freedom supporters suddenly appear more concerned with the movie’s reputation than the welfare of the possible victim.
What Marta has been charged with is the kind of offense repeatedly carried out by the villains in Sound of Freedom, and it’s the kind of news that the film’s most zealous audiences have pointed to as justification for a moral panic about trafficking. However, Marta is one of their own: around the time Sound of Freedom premiered, Marta was reportedly bragging on Facebook about how he had helped bring it to theaters.
