I would like to remind Daily Kos readers that The Empathy Center is hosting an Empathy Summit that will bring together professional empathy trainers from across a wide variety of interests to share how they use empathy in their practice. This event will start this weekend, Sept. 2nd and continue on again the next weekend. And, it is free! A more detailed explanation of the event can be on my previous Daily Kos diary: Building a Culture of Empathy #03| Free review of empathy training programs from around the world!
Coming up in October is our Free Facilitator Training Course. (See advertisement graphic on the right.) This is a 4 week course conducted on Saturdays that lasts about 2 and a half hours per class. In course we teach participants how to conduct and facilitate empathy circles. In the class we teach how our four main values of mutualism, empathy, openness, and care support the Empathy Circle process.
In addition to the classes students are encouraged to have “buddy calls” each week with fellow students to practice what is learned in class. These calls are about 40 minutes each and are scheduled at the convenience of the students.
Today I would like to highlight a few of the guest speakers. Edwin Rutsch, William Filler, Lou Zweier, and Jim Wharton.
Please jump the fold for a brief discussion of a few of the speakers and details on attending.
The next Empathy Summit will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023. For more information click here. The topic will be:
Edwin Rutsch is the founding director of the Center for Building a Culture of Empathy and one of the hosts of the Empathy Summit. Edwin is a focal point in the Empathy Movement and has been working for decades towards bringing empathy to the public. He is currently in the process of opening The Empathy Center educational retreat located at 1864 Las Canoas Road in Santa Barbara California.
In general this summit will bring together a wide variety of professionals from around the world that are using empathy in their professions: Authors, University Founders, Educators, Community Builders, Empathy Consultants, Empathic Leadership Trainers, Mediation Trainers, Conflict Transformation Facilitators, Empathy Workplace Consultants, Empathy Evangelists, Workshop Facilitators, Empathic Healthcare Professionals, and Conflict Resolution Facilitators.
Next week I will be able to review some of the presentations in greater detail in a new diary about the Empathy Summit.
William Filler and Lou Zweier, our Empathy Circle Facilitator Training Developers, will be discussing the development of our class and plans for in person training at the new Empathy Center. And we will hear from Ashok Bhattacharya and Shelton Davis on building empathic communities.
I’m looking forward to hearing Jim Wharton from the Seattle Aquarium talk about fostering empathy for wildfire. He will be talking about the multiple classes, workshops, events, and Empathy Cafés that the Aquarium sponsors.
