I haven’t seen any stories about Rebecca Cooke, who is running for the Democratic nomination in Wisconsin ‘03 Congressional District. I don’t know much about her. But somehow I got connected to her Facebook feed, which is impressive. She seems to be a strong campaigner and a good progressive candidate, particularly for the area. She ran in ‘22. And I was surprised that she didn’t get the nomination. I don’t know anything about the candidate who did, except that they lost to the MAGA Republican.
Now, Cooke is coming out of the gate hard to win the ‘24 nomination. She’s being more aggressive this time in seeking to attract small contributions by (1) identifying her district as one that could swing to the Democrats and (2) attacking the Republican who holds the seat as MAGA trash. Last time around, she was totally positive, making no references to the voting split in the district or the incumbent. Honestly, I thought it was safe Republican seat. I admired her for making the effort. But didn’t bother to donate. This time I made a small donation.
I think we need more candidates with really strong communication skills who can define themselves as something other than “not what we hate.” It would be great to see the KOS community get behind her if she is in fact as strong of a candidate as she appears to be to me.
