You can make a difference to the hurt being caused by climate chaos and the great extinction event in your town or your city! How? Reuse, repurpose, and recycle this information. You can push your local politicians to act. It will make a difference!
This is the letter for week 181 of a weekly climate strike that went on for 4 years in front of San Francisco City Hall, beginning early March 2019. For more context, see this story. For an annotated table of contents of the topics for all the strike letters, see this story. Meanwhile…
STRIKE FOR THE PLANET
It’s clear! San Francisco is for the cars! Car are #1! We’re L.A. north!
This week’s topic: Cars Rule!
Open it all up now!
Give it over to cars, all cars, all the time, everywhere! They deserve it! Because!
Parks? Who needs parks?!
Driving wherever anyone wants to go is waaaay more important than habitat, silence, darkness, ecosystems, recreation, health and safety. Waaaaaaaaay more important! Everywhere! Because cars! Raaaah!
Streets belong to cars!
They weren’t made for cars, but cars rule them now. Because cars are killers, right? That’s why nothing else belongs on streets! Ever. Anywhere.
Know that ghost bike locked up on the Civic Center side of City Hall? The woman who died there, if she’d just been riding on the sidewalk, it’s a lot less likely she would have been killed by a car. Even better, she should have been driving a car, right? Then her sister wouldn’t have been crying out there at the bike memorial a few weeks ago!
Crosswalks? What are non-cars doing on the streets?! They soooo don’t belong. People, babies, pets — it’s their fault if something happens because they are on a street! Cars and only cars on the streets, and streets everywhere! Because cars rule!
That’s why cars need to be able to go everywhere!
The DeYoung Museum? Open it up for drive-thru galleries! The hospitals? Drive in exam rooms and wards! Libraries? Widen the aisles and the doors so cars can get access! City Hall? Drive up that staircase, roar down the corridors, listen to the tires squeal on the marble!
The only infrastructure is for cars!
Do the right thing, SF! You’re getting rid of Slow Streets, and that’s great because slow is an abomination! Get rid of bike lanes next! Bikes can’t kill like cars can so get them off the roads! Sidewalks? No walking allowed! Put the Central Freeway back up, put that freeway in Glenn Canyon, ring the city with the 2-tier elevated freeway that was planned and never put in! All cars, all the time, damn the engines, full speed ahead!
Cars are kings in SF
Only guns are doing a better job at killing than cars!1
FOOTNOTES
1. From the CDC, in 2021 guns killed 48,832 people and cars killed 42,915 people. BUT cars also pollute water ecosystems and water tables AND are huge contributors to climate change in the form of CO2 exhaust, adding a minimum of another 688 dead in 2021, according to NOAA.
