Yesterday was a profoundly historic day in Virginia. In Richmond, the former capital of the Confederacy, the Virginia General Assembly unanimously elected Democrat Don Scott as House Speaker, making him the first Black Speaker in the history of the Virginia House of Delegates.
I’m not going to add much to the photo above and the NPR article linked below because together they are worth a trillion words. I haven’t looked into whether Delegate Scott was elected unanimously because Republicans abstained or because they actually supported him but really, I don’t care.
