Who pays their fair share of taxes in America? That’s a debatable point, as “fair” is not an easily definable term. But it is easy to see who pays the largest share of their family earnings, and it may not be who you’d think!
This map (poached from the great blog TYWIKIWDBI on whom I cannot heap enough praise) shows that in California and New York, where some of the largest concentrations of wealth reside, the people with lower income pay lower tax rates. But nearly everywhere else — I’m looking at you, Texas and Florida — the people with the lowest income pay the highest tax rates!
Well ain’t that a kick in the groin? But in a country where at the national level there seems to be a maniacal push to declare tax breaks for the rich, maybe not so surprising at all.
