Frank Luntz was on NPR this morning saying (just like plenty of other pundits and pollsters) that the Iowan Trump supporters were full of passion for Trump because he’s the victim and he’s getting attacked like they’re being attacked. Somebody even said that evangelicals equate Trump with Jesus bearing their sins for them.
Biden needs to take a page out of Trump’s book and say:
They’re attacking our record on diversity because they don’t want more fair representation for you in the courts and government.
They’re attacking my age because they’re attacking your experience.
They’re attacking our tax policy and the IRS because they don’t want the top 1% to pay their fair share of taxes.
They’re attacking our economic record because they don’t want unions to become strong again.
They're attacking me because they’re all for chaos and instability and want to destroy it all. They even wish the economy to crash if they can’t get credit.
etc
I’m sure his speech writers can do better than what I can do (something about drugs and Hunter maybe), but the message needs to take into account the fact that politics is tribal and you need to get that passion back from 2020 with black, Latino, young, college educated voters for that winning coalition.
