A country is in serious trouble when a major political party — one that once elected a president who led a bloody Civil War to vanquish racial slavery — now has a presidential candidate who says to the American people on National T.V., “We’ve never been a racist country.“ It’s hard to think of a more false statement or a greater lie that could be made by a presidential candidate.
If you can stand listening to the video the address for the Fox interview is here, the quote starts at about 5:30 minutes into it.
Out Trumping Trump?
One would think that Republican candidates like Haley would have learned by now, that you can’t out Trump the Trump. Even the Donald himself, America’s number one political bigot, didn’t think he could get away making such a ridiculous statement. In some ways it’s as disingenuous as the Orange Man’s biggest lie about the 2020 election being fixed. And almost as dangerous.
Reactionary and fascistic political movements are fond of reinventing history. American reactionary ideology practices a psychotic form of revisionist denial. One which the Republican Party political leadership, their members of Congress and even most of its rank and file base know to be false.
Of MAGAs and Wrestling Fans
Only the true believers take the lies seriously, very reminiscent of the more gullible WWWF wrestling fans who believe it’s for real.
I suspect many more identify, like the MAGers, and root for “bad-guy” wrestlers and take pleasure in seeing them beat up the “good guys,” which to some represent the “liberal good doers.” Although bad guy wrestling champions are hard to distinguish from the good guy ones since the 90s.
For most it’s a “pretend” belief, like no longer believing in Santa Claus, but enjoying seeing the matches or getting the presents anyway.
Haley Speak
The “language” such as Haley speaks along with many other Republicans serves to inform the base that they are willing to deny reality, affirm their racism and do their best to re-write history.
Giving them a permission of sort to remain bigoted by sweeping away any current or historical references to it to. So as to make sure the next generation is easier to infect with the disease.
Said in a more direct way, to deny racism is to practice it.
The Cost of Blind Ambition
Haley must also pay the price any woman of color who grows up in the South must pay to gain entrance into the good graces of the white mostly Republican establishment.
Which is to grin or smile, never get angry, and deny the existence of racism to disarm their fears and make them acceptable. Something you must sell part of your soul to live with. And I don’t mean that in the religious sense of the word.
As such, she is unable to directly respond to Trump playing the race card, well not just the so-called race card, but the entire 52 card deck by spelling out her full birth name.
Halley has demonstrated quite clearly that her ambition exceeds her moral compass. Having one is an automatic DQ in Republican politics.
