I used to follow Mark Shields on ARCA Max. Nowadays my guy is Marc Munroe Dion. He’s a solid.
He doesn’t restrict himself to pre-approved points of view in an effort to blend in with the choir. In this opinion piece he addresses Immigration, ladies and gentlemen. He is right. We’re giving that issue away to the fascists.
Right now. For the first time in a long time, American workers have a slight advantage in the labor market. It is no accident that big money demeans immigrants while luring them to our shores. That has been a recurring saga from our nation’s beginning.
We absolutely have to control immigration. We absolutely have to humanely say no to quite a lot of would be immigrants. At a minimum, the immigrants we do permit must have a path to assimilation and citizenship.
When I hear that immigrants grow the economy — I’m not tone deaf. Given our current system that means it grows the income of businesses that take advantage of undocumented workers and American laborers alike.
We need a more robust foreign policy that aids countries to correct the conditions that migrants flee.
I don’t hear many Democratic voices that dare talk about undocumented immigration in a way that is convincing. So far, the message is muddled at best.
