Harvard President Claudine Gay resigned yesterday, just six months after taking office.
According to The Crimson, her decision was driven by a witch hunt by far right members of Congress and the decision of some donors to stop giving to Harvard.
This is a low point in Harvard's history and a shameful episode for the country as a whole. The richest university on the planet has been forced to kowtow to a far right anti-intellectual cabal. They'll be burning books in Harvard Yard next; mark my words.
Academic freedom and freedom of expression no longer exist on American college campuses. While I'm sure the vast majority of voters don't care, the downstream ramifications will be enormous. Other countries that value scholarship for its own sake will soon start to surpass the United States in new technologies, and will eclipse it both economically and geopolitically.
We are the new Russia. We await only the inauguration of our own Putin.
