Welcome to what is the 1287th original profile here at “Fanatical Republican Extremist of the Day”, where we’ll be profiling Leo Benjamin, who was a failed candidate for U.S. House of Representatives in Virginia’s 4th Congressional District in 2023, hoping to win the seat formerly held by late Democratic Congressman Don McEachin. Benjamin was making this third attempt at getting elected to office as a right-wing pastor, and if you don’t know where this is going… spoiler alert, homophobia ahoy.
After a few controversial bigoted remarks through the years, Pastor Benjamin went into an interview with MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart, and the anchor, who is gay, quoted Benjamin’s homophobic diatribe from a decade prior:
”Bring you sick, disease, gay, homosexual, lesbian, transvestite, bipolar, alcoholic, drug addiction friends and love ones!!!!!!!!!!” We’ll follow that with the interview in 2022 that Benjamin gave where he declared “We are not a racist nation”, which would be true if you ignore most of American history.
Anyway, Leo Benjamin got obliterated in that special election by almost a 3 to 1 margin. We’re thinking this might be a clear indicator he’s not winning office anytime soon.
