Welcome to what is the 1275th original profile here at “Fanatical Republican Extremist of the Day”, where we’ll be profiling Heidi Sampson, who is the sitting representative for District 137 of the Maine House of Representatives, and from 2016-2022, was serving in District 21 of that body. Her rise in politics came when she was hired for a position on the Maine Board of Education by absolutely bats*** former Governor Paul LePage, mostly on account of the fact that she was a homeschool advocate. But alas, it was her passion for anti-vaccination paranoia that really made her infamous. At first, it was her hyperbolic comparison of vaccines to playing Russian Roulette that was concerning, but it got far, far worse.
In July of 2021, she was still protesting Covid-19 mask mandates and vaccine mandates (in spite of having a degree in biology), and she spoke at an event hosted by a noted conspiracy theorist, Robert Steele (who denies the Holocaust happened). At that event, she not only spoke to her belief that the 2020 election needed a “forensic audit” because why not support Donald Trump’s Big Lie… but compared measures being taken to actions by Josef Mengele and Joseph Goebbels.
”So we have Josef Mengele and Joseph Goebbels being reincarnated here in the state of Maine. I'll let you figure out who is in what role but I'll just say probably the Mengele...You probably have two by the same last name, of one is the governor.”
She also claimed that vaccine mandates for healthcare workers violated the Nuremberg Code, and compared it to the Tuskegee Syphilis Study, recommending state officials be executed for approving such measures. Sampson was widely criticized by both sides of the aisle for her rhetoric. At this point, we’ll just recommend viewing her voting record to confirm her radical nature (and not in the positive “radical” that the Ninja Turtles might use the word for), and hope that term limits bring about an end to her career here in 2024.
