They have depended for years — decades! — on being able to obfuscate things with the general public in order to get elected. And it’s worked all this time because most voters are not particularly engaged with politics.
We have to face the facts here. Things that matter to those of us who do follow politics closely often aren’t even noticed by those who don’t. In part that’s because we only talk about it with other people who are engaged with politics, but most of it is because many people mistakenly believe that what politicians in D.C. do doesn’t matter to them, or they believe the rhetoric that Republicans repeat to ridicule us.
If we’re going to win in November and continue the process of turning things around, we need to change that. And the biggest part of that is to start telling truths, as often and as loudly as possible. Trump and his GOP have grown to rely heavily on Democrats being reticent in calling a spade a spade while they call us every nasty name in the book.
I’m aware that quite a few people want to do unto them what they have done to us, but that won’t end well for us. If someone flings poop at you, the only thing flinging it back at them will do is give them more ammunition, especially given how they’ve already conditioned so many people to think poorly of us and our ideas. Fortunately, we don’t need to. Donald Trump has provided us with all the ammunition we could ever need; we just need to start using it.
Remember, the point is that we need to be 100% truthful. Telling the truth is like building a tower out of Jenga blocks; if we don’t make very sure that the whole thing is accurate, then the whole thing collapses.
