Talk about easier said than done. Ohio junior US Senator J.D. Vance snorts that on J6 “If I had been VP, I would have told the [battleground] states...that we needed to have multiple slates of electors….”
Translation: like it or not, report it or not, GOPers will foist win-or-coup till the cowed come home.
On the bright side, kudos to ABC/”This Week” for muting Vance’s mic in mid-rant. On the other hand, the politically undead loser for whom he raves set the seditious standard for the ages: on 9/23/20, then-Lame Duck Donald presaged Vance’s quackery by effectively vowing to do all he could to “get rid of the ballots” that might not go his way.
Come to think of it, on the Ellipse, how clear did Trump make it (especially to his actual, real-world veep, Mike Pence) that to destroy our vote-legitimized governance (and hence our nation) would be “the right thing?” To that end, did he, Trump, not send pre-stoked throngs “to the Capitol….to fight like hell?”
Question. Given the impact of that fateful stampede, should ABC (and other outlets) not ‘cut off Trump’s mic’ (as best they can) in perpetuity?
Two words: hell, yes. Four more: so, why don’t they?
In a nutshell (quoting author/”Gaslit Nation” podcaster Sarah Kendzior), “mainstream media cater...to power.” Oops. Trouble is (as USA co-founder George Mason warned), the most damage can be done by the highest, most powerful, hardest-to-rein-in figures. Above all, clearly enough, by a wayward incumbent-or-ex-POTUS who evinces despotic leanings, and so needs to be relentlessly opposed-not-appeased.
In all, it feels gratifying to see ABC refuse to let Vance use its studios as a GOP propaganda porch. But there’s a mixed bag in play. Despite Trump’s tens of thousands of documented lies in one term, neither ABC nor any other corporate source I know of has grasped or conveyed the simple fact that no one in his or her right mind should take one word Trump says without a grain (nay, an entire mine) of salt. Given how Big Blonder can fairly be deemed Vance-writ-YUGE, how about resolving and relentlessly reporting the top-tier, top-of-the-ticket truth? As a vital service on behalf of our imperiled homeland, that surely should come with the territory- and, indeed, rank as Job One.
