The “Base Student Allocation” hasnʼt been adjusted for inflation in 7 years. Citizens are rallying for an increase in money for our public schools. The large school districts are budgeting now and facing deficits of 5 - 10 percent of their budgets. (Alaska schools are funded by the state, with limits on what municipalities can provide)
Governor Dunleavy cannot run for re-election. He is a Republican. (join me noshing on some smoked salmon for more details - Iʼd gauge what I tell you by the look on your face).

He asserts that giving money to schools wonʼt change outcomes, rambles about decline in number of human beings in the world, and ends up with an assertion that the people who wrote the state constitution wanted a strong executive.
For those who can stomach it, the whole event can be watched on

This is about all I can write just now. In my town, we are quickly discussing which school buildings to close.
(My next project is to write urging the legislature to reject Dunleavyʼs orders reducing local input and control of Bald Eagle Preserve and Bristol Bay land management and whatever they can do about huge trucks taking over roadways that are school bus routes and….)
