The rapturous religious morons on the Alabama Supreme Court have outdone themselves in 21st century sophistry with their recent ruling declaring frozen embryos to be children. Forget about the offensive and unconstitutional substitution of radical right wing Christian ideology for either the law, science or, I don’t know, THE RIGHTS OF PARENTS, this ruling is plain stupid and wrong, on its face!
For all their quibbles, legalese and wordplay, for all their sanctimonious posturing and pious braying, their idiocy is on full display in this phrase, which they repeatedly use in the ruling: “cryogenic nursery.”
I can tell you, as a father of actual children, I would have LOVED to put my kids in freezer storage for a few weeks every once in awhile! However, as with other potential parental conveniences, you can’t do it because the little fuckers’ll die!
Hateful, self-righteous and prejudiced is one thing, but stupid is another thing entirely, and honest to God, this is just knuckle dragging stoopit! If embryos are children, then children should be able to survive prolonged frozen stasis. If all children cannot survive such treatment, then the definition is wrong. Since changing definitions is what the Heritage Foundation and their ilk are all about, it is up to us who pay attention to call them out on their rank dishonesty and stupidity when it is on such obvious display.
Some Christians evidently have lost the ability to feel shame, but Supreme Court justices are, one presumes, lawyers, which implies education, and educated people are usually capable of the old face in palm moment when their idiocy is pointed out. I don’t know, though – this is the old South we’re talking about, and they have proved time and again where their priorities are – in keeping the people in charge in charge. And then their children. And then their grandchildren. We can only hope that they start leaving their offspring in “cryogenic nurseries” to avoid indoctrination at daycare – “sharing” is just another word for Socialism, after all – then maybe in a generation or two some nominally intelligent people may start to take their places.
In the meantime, please tell me: why do any women, Jews or people of color continue to live in these places?
