There has always been a certain lack of "give a shit." That's quite evident from things like conducting employee interviews, much less dealing with already hired lazy employees. So many people just squeak by. Forget giving "value-added" effort.
And it doesn't matter what it is, from simple housekeeping to leaving comprehensive notes for the next shift. A lot of people just don’t “give a shit.”
Now apply that thought to the eligible voting base. At a time when the risks couldn't be any clearer.
And in the next presidential election there will still be people who just couldn't manage to get their asses up off the couch to go cast a vote. The same people who otherwise participate in and benefit from "the system."
Granted, there's room for debate as to whether or not people should be required to vote. Do we really want people casting a vote who are so mentally divorced from the system (and reality)? I dunno.
I should think that that if you pay taxes (and you have to), you should be required to vote.
Scary to think that this noble experiment in government could turn on a dime and become a total nightmare, just because enough people with a functioning brain stem couldn't care enough to participate and vote.
