From the title of this diary, you might be thinking that a group of progressives have filed a court case to throw Republican Congressman Thomas Massie (KY-4th) off the ballot, but you would be oh so wrong my friends. Nope. It’s a fellow Republican by the name of Eric Deters who has filed a complaint about Massie not having filed the proper paperwork to be on the ballot this fall. And brother are both of these men pieces of work!
For those who find it hard to keep track of Republican assholes in Congress, here are some of Thomas Massie’s highlights:
You get the picture.
So what did Massie do to supposedly screw up his paperwork for filing to run for reelection?
Massie had to have — wait for it — signatures from two residents living in the KY-4th filed by Dec 18th in 2023. One of those signatures is from State Representative T.J. Roberts. However, Roberts shares his home with his grandparents, and their home burned down in May of 2023. The home was rebuilt, but Roberts didn’t move back into it until Jan of 2024. In the meantime, Roberts had a temporary address.
Eric Deters has argued that Roberts address is not accurate, so Massie does not have the required two signatures to be on the Kentucky ballot this fall.
Shocking, huh?
But what about Deters you ask? Deters wants Massie’s seat. And is Deters — ahem — “qualified” to run for the seat?
The controversial figure can no longer legally practice law in three states, online records show. He's also faced charges for chasing his nephew down in a truck and harassing him via phone; been arrested after he failed to appear in court for a traffic ticket; and was banned from a courthouse after threatening to burn it down.
Given how Republicans love those who have been arrested and love violence, I’d say Deters blends in perfectly!
Now, there is no way in hell that a Democrat can really ever win the KY-4th (it happened only once since I was a kid, and the conservative Democrat only lasted one term). Therefore, the only real battle is during the Republican primary for this seat. Massie usually gets 75-80% in the primary, so Republicans love the guy.
The only question is if the judge will throw Massie off the ballot, and the hearing is set for today at 1 P.M.
This really is like watching something out of Mad Max Thunderdome, but without any hero in the cage.
