So, some good news out of the Netherlands in the last day or so. Apparently, Geert Wilders (and major Trump ally) has given up his bid to become Prime Minister. He has always been an extreme right winged politician in the Netherlands but won an election largely because he ran on a more moderate platform. But shortly after winning the election he has engaged in inflammatory rhetoric on X and has returned to his facist talking points. So the coalition partners failed to come to an agreement with him and he is stomping around making comments about how it is “unfair” and that he should be PM. Though from what I have read from the Netherlands is that the population is not exactly unhappy that he will not be the PM.

Seeing as how I have been following this for past 6 months or so, can anyone tell me what the vibe is in the Netherlands regarding this? What is the public’s opinion on this? How will this impact Netherlands politics going forward? Will he be more or less relevant in the parliament? I know he has been building support since 2007 but I am wondering if he has peaked. Although, they seemed to think that after his bid failed in 2017.
Its one of my favorite countries to study and follow so any input will be welcome as I am still new to the political process there. I have also noticed that Javier Milei in Argentina (another one of Trump’s buddies who ran with the slogan “Make Argentina great again” is running to issues concerning rising poverty while trying to push for extreme austerity programs which have been rejected by the senate for being unconstitutional and he is dealing with several protests throughout the country.

Again, any input is welcome.
