Okay, what if all the stores are out of business, looted, and empty?
What if the cops all quit?
The city water stops flowing.
No electricity.
I truly do not know how all that might happen, in the foreseeable future, here in the USA.
But as I write about prepping, there are always some folks who ask that question.
So, I will give you my answer.
First, we need to think about how my neighbors will die, most of them, and when.
I just looked it up, and without water, folks will die in about a week or less.
With water but no food, it can take two or three months.
So.
Any of my neighbors who have no extra water in their homes, and are afraid to go out and find some, out of fear of roving gangs, they will be dead within a week.
The roving gangs will take the food they find in the homes, stepping over the dead bodies.
Those gangs will only survive if they figure out where to get water.
They will find no bottled water in homes they raid, unless they kill those people they find there, who have been drinking some of their water.
They will mainly find food and dead bodies.
Here in Wichita, Kansas, there is a river, the Arkansas river, running north to south through town.
There are also some creeks, that usually have water in them.
There are also many ponds, that were sand pits, and then filled up with rainwater.
The gangs will go to those rivers or creeks or ponds, and drink that water, and eat food they find in homes.
They will be dead within a year or so, seems to me, after they find no more food in any homes.
No need for me to get a lot of weapons and kill the roving gangs.
All I need to do is avoid them and let them die.
In my apartment, I have about a month’s supply of water, and about five year’s supply of food.
But if the world around me collapses, in order to last beyond that month, I might ask some of my neighbors for help.
Maybe by that time, I will have me a Berkey water filter in my home.
Some of my close neighbors (in my apartment complex) and I would form a team, and we can walk to a creek called Dry Creek, that always has water in it, in spite of the name.
It is about a half mile from our apartment complex.
So, for some months, we would all be okay, everyone on our team.
If we are not killed by the roving gangs.
My five years of food, shared with the neighbors who are on my team, will only last a few months, a year at the most.
Okay, since we are daydreaming about the possible, I have a brother-in-law.
He has a wife and three small children, and three brothers, and me.
He has been planning for the last few years to buy a few acres of land just a few miles away from Wichita.
If he gets the land before the collapse, we could all go there.
Not the whole city of Wichita, just a select few, including me and his brothers.
Maybe we would sneak out there at night, so the gangs do not see us and follow us.
Once again, if the roving gangs do not follow us out to the farm, they will die in town.
He plans to raise a lot of chickens (he has about ten chickens in town, right now) and maybe he will get some goats.
We might build a big greenhouse.
We would plant some crops, potatoes and tomatoes, etc.
I would want to grow peanuts, because we need fats to feel satisfied.
Eggs and butter and cheese and animal fats are great, but I want peanut butter, as well.
So, for a happy ending, we could survive on that farm.
I truly do not see how we will have that total collapse, here in the USA, any time in the foreseeable future.
But to answer the question, what might I do, there is my answer.
Hugs.
