USAF crewmembers airdropping pallets of humanitarian aid to Palestinians had eye-opening experiences after witnessing the devastation in the Gaza Strip.
“It hits home for a lot of the air crew, when they look out and they see firsthand the environment that they are providing aid to,” said Lt. Col Jeremy Anderson, who had flown five airdrop missions since the beginning of March.
Two MQ-9 Reaper drones accompanied the C-130 during this mission which delivered 16 pallets of Jordanian-supplied rice, flour, milk, pasta, and canned foods.
A single USAF C-130 cargo plane flying from Jordan can airdrop a few tons of humanitarian aid per sortie, while C-17 Globemaster III aircraft flying out of Qatar with their greater payloads are airdropping large quantities of pallets containing American military rations and water bottles.
Egypt, Jordan, Germany and Singapore are conducting parallel airdrop missions. Until the temporary pier is constructed offshore, President Biden’s plan of airdropping humanitarian aid via CENTCOM remains the best approach to alleviate the suffering in the Gaza Strip.
