“One must be careful of what one writes...” So said Cardinal Richelieu (Charlton Heston) in 1974’s The Four Musketeers.
Representative Tim Burchett (R-TN) is being sued by a Kansas man Burchett falsely identified on social media as an “illegal alien” and one of the Kansas City Super Bowl parade shooters.
Lawyers for Denton Loudermill, Jr. filed suit in Kansas City (KS) federal court, alleging that their client suffered damages in excess of $75,000 as a result of a post appearing on Rep. Burchett’s private X account in February, identifying Loudermill as “one of the Kansas City Chiefs victory parade shooters” and “an illegal Alien.”
Loudermill had attended the victory parade and had been caught in the aftermath. Bystanders photographed him in handcuffs after he was briefly detained by police. Loudermill was subsequently released with no charges or criminal citations. Three men and three juveniles were later arrested and charged with crimes, including 2nd degree murder. (Note: none of the charged individuals appear to be “illegal aliens”.)
Of course, the image of Loudermill in handcuffs went viral and eventually landed on Burchett’s page. Burchett later deleted the post, but the damage was done. Loudermill’s attorneys claim their client received death threats and experienced mental distress, and are seeking a jury trial.
Rep. Burchett is one of the Republicans targeting immigration. He’s also running for re-election in TN’s safely-Red 2nd Congressional District, which includes Knoxville.

Bets on Burchett screaming “Speech and Debate Clause!” to weasel out of this? Anyone? Anyone?
