So pleasantly surprised here in North Carolina I am taking the week off anyway, so went mid morning.
We are now having to show an ID to vote (like we did last year for the municipal elections) so that is kinda sad.
But the good news, I think, in my predominately Democratic precinct, things were steady while I was there. Short wait to get checked in, and no wait for a voting booth, but most were full the whole time I was there.
Now we do all our primaries at the same time. That may bring a few more people out, we used to have our primaries really late, so having it all together made a bit more sense. With the move to Super Tuesday it seems awfully early to get the down ballot set. Sounds like a mix of states that do it all together and those that do the down ballot races in the summer.
We have some interesting races (Rachel Maddow last night actually talked about our Lt. Governor who is likely to get the nomination for Governor. He’s a, um, pip, to use a word that won’t get me banned here. Got my vote in for Josh Stein (current attorney general) to run against him for Governor, and Jeff Jackson for Attorney General. So sad they gerrymandered him out of any chance of getting a second run at his House Seat.
Our municipal elections are pitiful, I think being on the off-off years (odd number years) means something like 90% of our registered voters don’t bother. I always feel bad for the poll workers when I’m the only one in there the entire time. So seeing a constant flow of people made me feel hopeful.
Hows voting going where you are?
