I have been following the Republican Party’s absurd impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas, and the Democratic Paty’s reaction to it. According to The HILL:
“A Senate GOP aide who requested anonymity to discuss the sensitive matter said Mayorkas’s impeachment won’t take up much time on the Senate floor.
“There’s not going to be a trial. I don’t think we’ll even get a resolution” to govern the floor process, said the aide.
The aide said Schumer is expected to offer a motion to dismiss or a motion to table the day after the House impeachment managers formally present the charges to the Senate on Wednesday.
Any motion to dismiss or table the charges against Mayorkas would need only a simple majority to pass. Democrats now hold a 51-49 seat advantage.
A vote to dismiss the articles of impeachment may get Republican support, as several GOP senators have expressed skepticism about the strength of the House GOP’s case against Mayorkas.”
Yesterday morning I heard that MAGA Mike was delaying the delivery of the articles of impeachment to the senate until sometime next week. I was therefore surprised to see “Impeachment of Mayorkas will be delivered to the Senate” as the description of what CSPAN2 was showing that hour. I tuned in CSPAN2, and there on the senate floor, in front of a microphone, was Sen. Shelley Capito (R. W. Virginia). She was babbling about Majority Leader Schumer’s alleged intent to dismiss the impeachment charges against Secretary Mayorkas without a trial. She then howled that Democrats must be afraid of the evidence, and she did this with a straight face as if there actually was some evidence of Mayorkas committing a high crime or misdemeanor. According to her, the number of undocumented immigrants crossing the border under the Biden administration is the “worst” ever. She then indulged in the usual fascist scare tactics by wailing about the criminals and drugs supposedly being allowed to enter the country through our porous borders. The problem is that none of the conduct she alleges are impeachable offences.
Next at the microphone was Sen. Jerry Moran (R. Kansas). For the most part Sen. Moran shoveled the same crap that Sen. Capito tossed into the air, as if doing so will make some of it fly. Sen Moran, however, at least mentioned the Emergency National Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, which would have helped to solve the border problem and had bipartisan support. But then he added the falsehood that Democrats were using the failure of the house Republicans to pass that act as an excuse for not doing anything about the “border crises.” In doing so Moran ignored the fact that the moron MAGAs would pass a totally unacceptable bill and never let a bipartisan solution reach the floor. One would think a senator would know how essential compromise is to a democracy, but he obviously missed that lesson. Instead of urging compromise, Moran said the country cannot wait for comprehensive reform to end the “death and destruction” caused by our open border. Moran should tell MAGA Mike how much we need immigration reform rather than blaming the Democrats for wanting a reform that would work. But Moran is not about solutions, he is about spurious allegations that might scare his dumb ass constituents into believing Democrats are as lawless and incompetent as Trump is.
Senator Hagerty (R. Tennessee) was next to step up to the microphone and strain credulity. Contrary to Hagerty’s claim that Biden is flying 30,000 undocumented immigrants into the U.S. per month, the Associated Press said, “Claims the Biden administration is secretly flying migrants into the country are unfounded.” So what Hagerty was saying on the senate floor had already been fact checked and refuted. But God knows you would not want to let facts get in the way of a scary story.
Then there is Senator Ricketts (R. Neb) who said that the millions of “illegal” immigrants crossing our border should be imprisoned. Can you imagine old tight wad Ricketts voting for the funding needed to confine those prisoners.
Sen. Lankford (R. Tenn) followed Rickets but did not have anything new to add, and I ran an errand when Sen. Tuberville (Alabama’s resident village idiot) took the floor. I would say I missed Tuberville’s speech, but it is hard to imagine anyone missing the sound of his bloviating.
Since the Republican’s are trying to impeach Secretary Mayorkas over the Biden administration’s immigration policies, I think we should look at what the Washington Post wrote about a bipartisan attempt to change those policies:
“Trump’s opposition to senators’ recently failed $118 billion bipartisan border bill, tying border reforms to Ukraine aid, influenced many Republican legislators to reject it. It also dealt a potentially fatal blow to the possibility of new laws and tools that could reduce illegal crossings and ease strains on cities with overwhelmed shelters.”
There you have it. Rather than protecting the world from the aggression of Putin or solving the immigration problem the Republicans want to impeach a Democrat, preferably Biden but Mayorkas will do. If not dealing with the immigration problem is a high crime or misdemeanor, we should impeach every Republican who opposes the Emergency National Security Supplemental Appropriations Act.
