More than OJ. More than the Pretendsident. More than the various wars. More than the economy. All in only my opinion. And I only judge people in person face to face when I need to save time. But in the news not mentioned here it seems, starting today “Colombia’s capital, Bogotá, will begin rationing water…”
For the full story you can find a pretty quick read here.
Short story shorter…the reservoirs are “historically low”. “The plan will see nine different zones take turns rationing water services. Each zone’s water restrictions will begin at 8 a.m. local time and last 24 hours before shifting to the next zone in line.” (Bolding mine)
Will this help? Maybe. Or will people just flock to the places were water is? I can imagine someone already building an AP to swipe right in order to find a water date. Hospitals and schools will be protected it seems. And it is only this urban area so far. The pot growers do need their water after all.
I have read that Mexico City and Johannesburg are also large cities close to losing tap water as well. Nasty weather postponed the Masters this morning. Bad flooding in Florida today. And still a drought here in Panama. What will this summer fire season be like in the Northern Hemisphere I wonder. Perhaps a silver lining might be when and if water rationing reaches the global north. You know. The “nice” countries. Perhaps then the necessary number of this species will care enough about the climate crisis. Better that then waiting until oxygen will need be rationed.
