Asked if President Biden would debate him, Trump answered, “Cocaine!”
During an interview on Thursday, April 4th, Trump was asked if he thought President Biden would agree to debate him.
DJT: I don’t think so, but I hope he does. I think what happened is you know that white stuff that they happened to find, which happened to be cocaine in the White House, I don’t know, I think something’s going on there, because I watched this State of the Union, and he was all jacked up at the beginning. By the end, he was fading fast. There’s something going on there. I want to debate. And I think debates, with him, at least, should be drug tested. I want a drug test.
HH: Mr. President, are you suggesting President Biden’s using cocaine?
DJT: I don’t know what he’s using, but that was not, hey, he was higher than a kite. And by the way, it was the worst, it was the worst address I’ve ever seen, the State of the Nation. I’ll tell you, State of the Union, that’s not State of the Union, because he doesn’t represent us properly. That, I can tell you. But he’s obviously, he’s being helped some way, because most of the time, he looks like he’s falling asleep. And all of a sudden, he walked up there and did a poor job. But he was all jacked up.
HH: All right, Mr. President, let’s turn to vice president.
“Yes,” writes Dan Pfeiffer, “a presidential candidate just accused the sitting President of the United States of delivering the State of the Union address while high on cocaine. I’m guessing that. . . most of you are learning this information for the first time.”
I personally agree with Pfeiffer when he says, “The funniest part of the whole thing is that [the interviewer] just changed the subject and moved on to a series of questions about Trump’s vice presidential selection process.” Funny but also very, very troubling. In fact, Pfeiffer himself is asking “Why is the Press Making Trump Seem More Normal?”
Taegan Goddard, who compiles the very useful Political Wire, writes that Trump’s Anger and Incoherence Has to Be Seen:
Most news networks stopped broadcasting Donald Trump’s speeches in full after 2016, noting that the free publicity helped spread disinformation.
But I’d argue that not broadcasting them now makes Trump appear more cogent than it really is.
...I watched Trump’s recent speeches.... He’s definitely more rambling and incoherent this time around. He repeatedly veers into barely intelligible stories. And he’s decidedly more angry and vengeful.
[snip]
...Reporters have become inured to Trump’s style of speaking. He seemingly gets a pass as he stands before large crowds spouting ideas that are either barely understandable or flat out lies.
...It [should be] obvious to anyone watching these speeches that Trump is “not all there.”
When you view his speeches in full, you clearly see his menace and hatred toward those who oppose with him.
The news media really needs to show this more clearly to voters.
That would be nice, but I’m not inclined to depend on the news media to do a good job with this.
The transcript of the interview with Hugh Hewitt (a former anti-Trump Republican turned sycophant) had several examples of Trump’s disjointed speaking. Here, International Transgender Day of Visibility segues into golf scores. (Trigger alert: Trans mocking and Hewitt fawning over Trump.)
HH: ...You gave a line in Wisconsin about Christian visibility day on November 5th that had me laughing out loud. Was that in the teleprompter? Was that impromptu? Where’d that come from, because it was very funny?
DJT: No, that wasn’t in. That was not in the teleprompter. I was thinking about how insane this was with the transgender day on Easter. And now, he’s* going around saying oh, he didn’t know that. For three days, he knew about it, and now all of a sudden, he didn’t know about it. This guy lies. What he lies most about is his golf handicap. Not only is he not a six, he’s not a 36. 36 is the worst handicap you can have before, you know, to qualify. He does not qualify for 36.
*Note: apparently Trump is no longer referring to Biden by name, because he might get it wrong.
And in case you missed President Biden’s tendency to wild resume inflation:
DJT: “If truckers are in, listen to this, if truckers are in there, he’s a trucker. If jet pilots are in there, I flew jet pilots. The guy is just, we’ve got to get him out of there. We’ve got to get him out of there. Besides that, he’s weaponized the Justice Department. ...”
Our current President is a bad golf, no-name coke-head who doesn’t qualify for 36 and flew jet pilots. You heard it here first.
Meanwhile, on Truth Social, Trump declares:“I will gladly become a Modern Day Nelson Mandela.”
We will gladly have you start your 27 years in prison any time, sir.
