Yesterday I visited my cardiologist.
I have an ongoing heart condition called “aortic sclerosis”.
This means that my aortic heart valve is getting clogged up with calcium deposits. This reduces the flexibility of my heart valve and reduces the size of the tube through which my blood flows. This can result in a lack of blood pressure and may cause some physical weakness.
I will need to have surgery eventually, perhaps in the next few years. My cardiologist wants me to lose about another 100 pounds before he’ll be willing to do the surgery in a non-emergency condition. He has previously told me that if I had an emergency, at my current weight, it would be a “death sentence”.
I’ve been losing weight and getting my blood sugar and diabetes more under control. I’ve got a way to go, but I’m hopeful as long as I can maintain a stable lifestyle in the meantime.
I will be documenting my journey to lose 100 pounds so that I can have this surgery. Watch for more.

P.S. Today’s school assignment is a departure, High School PE. I’ve been avoiding PE assignments for years due to the effort involved, plus the last time I did high school PE (at this same school), I got hit in the head with a basketball and got a minor concussion. This is a three-day assignment so I hope I can tough it out, and it hopefully will be good physical therapy for me too.
