This action alert was the subject of a prior posting of mine about 2 weeks ago. Now the
Sierra Club has gotten involved and has called upon New Yorkers to contact their state senators. The link is below. Forgive me if you have already read and/or acted upon this, but this important.
Here is the background. It seems that New York's Governor George Pataki has taken a break from his 12 year catnap long enough to insert language into the budget bill for protection of wetlands. The state assembly has retained this language, the state senate has deleted that portion in its version. (In 2004, a wetlands protection bill passed in the assembly but stalled in the senate. The number of this bill was not available on line.)
The Sierra Club has additional information and has echoed Riverkeeper's earlier call for residents to contact their state senators. http://newyork.sierraclub.org/tracker/BudgetBill.htm I would urge your assistance so that this issue is not once again ignored by the senate. New York Kossacks, go, if you have not already, to the above link and express your rage or other appropriate emotion to the relevant individuals.
