Romero 58 percent
Nelson 42

Both Richard Romero and Gary King have good chances of ousting the Republican incumbents in their districts, and should both get national help in their crusades.
Miles Nelson had a strong showing against the Richardson-backed Romero. Heck, the entire NM political establishment was behind Romero, who also had high name ID from his failed bid for Heather Wilson's seat in 2002 and spent 2.5 times what Nelson spent. That Nelson garnered 42 percent of the vote is testament to the power of a strong grassroots operation.
But ultimately, Richardson's strong involvement in the race was probably the determinate factor in the final results.
