Today I am a proud American.
Yesterday, I learned that Tom DeLay was indicted, but this morning's SF Chronicle was wonderful. The above the fold picture was of a watery-eyed Tom Delay with a 1.5" headline:DELAY INDICTED, QUITS POST. And I immediately put up my flag.
The two top stories are linked below:
So why am I so proud today? Hint: it has nothing to do with the fact that I hate Bush.....
For the past few years, I have been wondering how fast we are driving to a tyrannical hegemony. Yesterday, things began to look up, since in a tyranny the people in power are above the law.
Here are a couple of juicy exerpts from the two stories:
DeLay is the first House leader to be indicted in more than a century. He is a staunch ally of President Bush and possibly the top money-raiser in Congress. Many regard him, after the president, as the most powerful man in Washington.
With this kind of concentrated power, it is truly a miracle that we still can count on THE RULE OF LAW:
"Our job is to prosecute abuses of power and to bring those abuses to the public," Earle said.
Even Scotty wants the justice system to work:
"Congressman DeLay is a good ally, a leader who we have worked closely with to get things done for the American people," McClellan said. "I think the president's view is that we need to let the legal process work."
So now I can say to those on my left, who are convinced that we live in a dictatorship already...Not yet my friends, not yet. Today I have reason to be proud of my country.
It feels pretty good, man, it feels REALLY good.
