Of course 9/11 has changed everything. But does this mean that the government can spy on Americans without a warrant? Or cut funds to first responders? Or do nothing to secure our air and sea ports? Or not bring Osama bin Laden to justice? Or building more nuclear plants (i.e. terrorist targets)? Or invade a country that was no threat to our security? This is what our adminsitration wants to believe, and yet it seems America is becoming less safe as each day goes by.
What Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said and did is not only insulting to all New Yorkers but to all Americans. Secretary Chertoff has ,"slashed the city's federal anti-terror funding," by forty percent. All this when terrorist attacks worldwide are up three-fold from 2001. To add insult to injury he told New Yorkers to "drop dead." Well, so much for President Bush's pro-life agenda.
The Bush administration has never been able to handle money properly. Our nation is facing an eight trillion dollar deficit, money that would be better spent for education, health care, job creation, first responders, levy construction, real security, alternative energy development... the list goes and on.
Because this administation did not spend enough money and time repairing this nation's levy system, thousands were left for dead in a city that ended up under water. One can only imagine what will happen if anti-terrorist funding is cut. Even when the administration had three days to prepare for Hurricane Katrina, thousands still died when nothing was done.
Now imagine if this administration has only hours to react to a terrorist attack with limited resources. How can we rely on this administration be able to prevent a more deadly wave of destruction from hitting the homeland? The truth is that we cannot, and failure on their part would result in utter catastrophe.
It is clear that this administration cannot walk the walk when it comes to national security. They invade a country that was not a threat to us and slash anti-terrorism funding to a city that has already been attacked by terrorists, just to name two instances of this administration's utter ineptitude. Please tell me that this is all a bad dream.
God Help America.

BREAKING:
"New York has no national monuments or icons, according to the Department of Homeland Security form obtained by ABC News. That was a key factor used to determine that New York City should have its anti-terror funds slashed by 40 percent--from $207.5 million in 2005 to $124.4 million in 2006. The formula did not consider as landmarks or icons: The Empire State Building, The United Nations, The Statue of Liberty and others found on several terror target hit lists. It also left off notable landmarks, such as the New York Public Library, Times Square, City Hall and at least three of the nation's most renowned museums: The Guggenheim, The Metropolitan and The Museum of Natural History." -ABC News (http://blogs.abcnews.com/...)
