Unlike the insurgency in Iraq which shows no signs of slowing, the Washington Post is exhibiting clear and disturbing signs of institutional rot, a rot that is accelerating its decline into whoredom and eventual insignificance.
Once it was a complement to say about someone "their word is as good as gold." And, it was once understood that in the news business "credibility was the coin of the realm." These phrases no longer apply to the Washington Post. Their word is meaningless and they have become morally and ethically bankrupt. This is proven beyond any reasonable doubt in their fawning coverage of the Bush administration and in their cheerleading that helped to lead the nation into an unjust war with Iraq. This is not to say that the Washington Post no longer serves a useful function. They are very useful to the Bush administration, Karl Rove and the Republican Party as one of their many propaganda outlets. (more below the fold)
Sooner or later, this abuse of their power as a news organization and their complete disdain for the truth will destroy them completely. We are seeing the first signs of it now. They have gone from pathetic to farcical to just plain sad. The epithet for the Washington Post will read "This organization was undone by a callous disregard for the truth and the right of the public to be informed. Good riddance!"
